BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.77 percent to 3,084.7 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.9 percent lower at 9,981.67 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 579 billion yuan (about 80.72 billion U.S. dollars), up from 573.3 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to hotel and tourism led the declines, while companies engaged in electronic information reported gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.99 percent to close at 1,967.61 points on Thursday.
