China Stocks Edge Up on Friday Following Tech Selloff, Forex Questions

(MT Newswires) -- Chinese stocks edged up on Friday after the country's tech index slid to its lowest since August 2025 on selloffs in artificial intelligence shares.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index barely moved upward to close at 3,813.79. The Shenzhen Component Index added 20.96 points to close at 12,641.86.
The CSI300 Index fell 1.3% during the lunch break to 4,257.14 before edging up toward positive territory at the closing bell, while the 5G Communication index slid as much as 6% to a two-month low.
Beijing also defended its exchange rate policy, saying it never needed to pursue competitive depreciation, the central bank said in a note Thursday.
"China has neither the need nor the intention to gain a competitive advantage in trade through currency devaluation," the People's Bank of China said in a statement.
In corporate news, Anhui Jianghuai Automobile (SHA:600418), or JAC Motors, finished 8% lower on Friday following reports that the brakes on an ultra-luxury model of the Zunjie V800, its joint electric vehicle project with Huawei, snapped during a test drive, sparking safety concerns.
