The Shanghai Composite edged down 0.1% to around 3,384, while the Shenzhen Component slipped 0.2% to 10,130 on Wednesday, extending losses from the previous session as investors turned cautious ahead of the Lujiazui Forum in Shanghai today.
China's top financial regulators are expected to unveil key policy initiatives at the forum, aimed at bolstering Shanghai's role as a global financial hub.
Markets are also awaiting policy signals from the People's Bank of China later this week, with consensus pointing to unchanged loan prime rates.
External factors added to the cautious mood, with geopolitical tensions in the Middle East persisting as the US considers a potential strike on Iran.
Notable decliners included Zhongji Innolight (-2.2%), Eoptolink Technology (-1.7%), Beijing Enlight (-4.2%), East Money (-1.2%), and Ningbo Yunsheng (-7.4%).
