Indian benchmarks little changed as gains in energy stocks offset consumer losses

(Reuters) - India's benchmark NSE Nifty 50and BSE Sensexindexes trade flat as gains in state-owned firms and energy cos offset a drop in consumer stocks
** While blue chips remain muted, smallcapsand midcapsjump 2% and 1.2%, respectively
** ONGC gains 2% following an improved production outlook for FY25-28, resulting in a Macquarie rating upgrade
** Oil marketing cos BPCL , HPCL rise 3.5% after Goldman Sachs upgrade, citing improving earnings outlook
** Energyand state-owned firms (.NIFTYPSE) gain 1.8% each, boosted by ONGC , BPCL and HPCL
** FMCG indexdrops 0.7%, taking its three-session losses to 3% and erasing the gains from Feb. 1, the day of the annual budget
** Asian Paintsloses 4% after missing December-quarter profit view
** Markets are taking a pause, assessing the uncertainty in global trade and positives from the budget such as tax reductions, ahead of RBI's policy decision on Friday, analysts say
