Hang Seng Index opens 177 points lower as JD.com falls over six per cent and SMIC rises against the market

14th August 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong stocks opened weaker on Friday, with the Hang Seng Index starting the session down 177 points at 25,219. Turnover in the opening trades reached 3.01 billion Hong Kong dollars. The Hang Seng Tech Index also fell, declining 0.6 per cent to 4,763.
Among major constituents, JD.com dropped over six per cent following the release of its latest financial results. CK Hutchison Holdings fell by two per cent, while CK Asset Holdings declined close to five per cent. In contrast, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ( SMIC ) bucked the overall downward trend, gaining more than four per cent.
Derivatives markets reflected the sombre mood, with Hang Seng Index futures dipping 134 points to 25,216 shortly before the market opened. Investors remain attentive to ongoing volatility in regional and international equities.
