The Nikkei Stock Average falls 0.9% to 48281.47, erasing opening gains, as risk-off mood overcomes potential bargain-hunting interest.
"Markets have been under intense pressure in recent days across the world," says Fawad Razaqzada, market analyst for Global Macro at FOREX.com, in an email.
"Some pointed out Nvidia's upcoming earnings report on Wednesday as a trigger behind the tech sector drop," the analyst adds.
Among the worst performers on the benchmark index, MODEC Inc. slips 8.0%, Kioxia Holdings falls 5.6%, and Ebara drops 7.3%. USD/JPY is at 155.43 compared with 155.52 late Tuesday in New York.
