(MT Newswires) -- Japanese stocks extended losses on Thursday as investors remained cautious about technology investments, with artificial intelligence companies seeking to raise billions in debt from a limited pool of investment capital.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 closed down 993.60 points, or 1.42%, at 69,042.11.
Oil prices rose as renewed attacks in the Middle East by Iran-backed Houthis escalated tensions and kept the energy flow under pressure, reviving energy supply risks and fueling inflation concerns.
On the corporate side, Fast Retailingprofit attributable to owners of the parent climbed 25.3% to 542.5 billion yen in fiscal 2026, from 433.0 billion yen a year earlier.
Also, Fitch Ratings has maintained the long-term issuer default ratings (IDRs) of Mizuho Financial Group at A- and the group's core banks, Mizuho Bank and Mizuho Trust & Banking at A, with stable outlook, according to a Wednesday release.
