19th August 2026 - (Hong Kong) The Hang Seng Index opened 124 points lower at 25,346 and was recently down 79 points, or 0.31 per cent, at 25,391. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index slipped 14 points, or 0.16 per cent, to 8,439, while the Hang Seng Tech Index fell 59 points, or 1.26 per cent, to 4,679. Early turnover was around HK$36.5 billion.
Large-cap technology names were mixed. Tencent Holdings eased 0.5 per cent, Alibaba Group lost 2.1 per cent and Baidu slid 13.2 per cent after its results, the weakest performer among blue chips. Meituan gained 1.6 per cent, Xiaomi Corporation rose 4.2 per cent following its earnings, JD.com edged down 0.1 per cent and Kuaishou retreated 2.4 per cent.
Financials traded broadly lower, with HSBC Holdings down 1 per cent, AIA Group off 0.2 per cent, Ping An Insurance slipping 0.4 per cent and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing easing 0.3 per cent.
Among individual movers, China Unicom fell 10.4 per cent after results, while The Hong Kong and China Gas Company (Towngas) advanced 5.9 per cent.
