9th April 2026 - (Hong Kong) Hong Kong equities retreated at the open on Wednesday, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index falling 136 points, or 0.53 per cent, to 25,756. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index declined by 53 points, or 0.62 per cent, to 8,623, while the Hang Seng Tech Index dropped 54 points, or 1.11 per cent, to 4,868, reflecting broad weakness in the technology sector.
Major technology counters were under pressure. Tencent slipped 0.29 per cent, while Alibaba fell 2.69 per cent. Meituan lost 1.4 per cent and JD.com declined 1.7 per cent. Xiaomi retreated 1.3 per cent, and Kuaishou dropped 2.5 per cent.
Financial stocks showed mixed performance. HSBC Holdings edged up 0.1 per cent, whereas AIA Group fell 0.5 per cent. Ping An Insurance slipped 0.4 per cent and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing was down 0.6 per cent.
