(Ruters) - The Dax rose ahead of the release of US jobs data on Friday. Germany's benchmark index was up 0.5 percent at 25,055 points.
Investors are hoping the figures will provide fresh clues about the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy.
Economists expect an increase of 90,000 jobs, after 162,000 jobs were added in the United States in August. A weak US jobs report could ease pressure on the Dax, as it would dampen immediate concerns about interest rate hikes, said Frank Sohlleder, an analyst at ActivTrades.
"A strong jobs report, by contrast, threatens to dramatically accelerate the current slide." Over the week, the Dax has lost a good 1.6 percent.
Shares of Adidas and Puma were among the biggest losers, falling more than 1 percent each in the Dax and MDax, respectively.
A weaker sales outlook from US rival Nike weighed on sentiment in the sporting goods sector.
Commerzbank shares also came under pressure in the Dax, falling 2.4 percent after being downgraded. Analysts at RBC cut their rating on the shares to "Sector Perform" from "Outperform".
